OK i 've followed the service manual and have read the posts. Yet when try to replenish the tilt trim reservoir it spurts out more than i can put in. i had to replace the electric motor, after i did that i attempted to bleed the air out only to lose more fluid. Its got a lot of air pressure built up pushing the fluid out. Is there something wrong possibly with the system? Does it also help to push down on the outdrive to purge air out. Its a 4 bolt electric motor on a 150 hp 2 stroke, 2001.

Where is it spurting fluid? Trim the motor all of the way up. Fill the resevoir with fluid and replace the filler screw. Then trim the motor all of the way up and down through several cycles to bleed the unit.

Re: tilt trim spurting fluid ? Bleeding

As a followup to those it might help. It took me awhile to think how the system works, so this is what I did . I hooked up a clear hose to the trim fluid bottle so i could see the amount going into the system. Then i tilted the engine full up with the release valve OPEN. and locked the engine up. I connected the bottle with the clear hose to the reservoir and turned it upside down to gravity feed the reservoir. Then with my assistant HOLDING the electric UP button on the engine, the trim pump sucked in what i thought was an appropriate amount of fluid( it was LOW), from the the container with the clear hose attached. It took me 2 times doing this procd. When i thought the fluid level should be good i disconnected the the clear hose from the reservoir and quickly capped it closed to prevent trim fluid from escaping. All while the UP button was held!!!. Or else the fluid backs out of the reservoir. Close off the release valve on the left side of the engine. My tilt trim pump system cycles up and down without problem. That what i did and it worked without making a mess everywhere.

Hope this helps u.

with the showa unit they can be a beast to bleed, will take many cycles. overfill it and you will post about blowing off the plastic resevoir.
it happens.
best way is to tilt the unit full up and walk away for a bit, the fill to the thread line and cycle it 5 times, then repeat.
