This is my tilt/trim system with pics posted above. I hear it screeching some times when getting to a certain point when lifting or lowering the motor while "tilting" not trimming. It only screeches for a second and I have no idea how these systems work. Can someone who recognizes my system tell me what all these bells and whistles are and how this works? If not point me in the right direction on "what kind of tilt/trim system I have"? Also, I have noticed that while trailered if I leave the motor in up position, when I go back to it I find that it is all the way down.. Does that mean I have a leak or what!? Thanks in advance.

Well i gotta say its the first time I have seen a street 90 used as a permanent filler elbow kinda neat, but what it looks like ya got there is your basic 2 wire force T/T unit. Find someone named RRitt hes the hydraulics go to guy here...

I've got a crick in my neck! Yes , Internal pump leak, unless you find fluid somewhere. Schreeching is a new symptom for my ears. Yes Rritt is the man.

Screechin. Could be the brushes in the motor.
That's an easy check, undo the two screws and take it off and check for rust.
The pump is engulfed in oil and really shouldn't make noise?
That gooseneck,it's a good idea?NOT, it allows you to overfill the motor.
If it gets too much oil it can push it up into the electric motor.
The fill plug/hole is also the fill level.

the drift down is going to be the valve body. Live with it until you have a 2-3 week stretch where you won't be using the boat and then send it off to be rebuilt or replace it. Since your engine is 50hp or smaller then you can get by with the $90 asian valve body off ebay/amazon. On smaller engines original versus asian is just a matter of replacing every 3-5 years versus every 18-20years.

the street 90 on filler is a bad idea. jerry is right about overfilling. it can split the reservoir and/or force oil up into motor. it is also the wrong thread. The filler is a 3/8-24 thread. the elbow is 1/8" pipe thread. it won't seal and becomes a place for water to get into trim. A properly working system never needs filling and adding the 90 is all bad with no good.

make sure the screeching is not a shaft or pivot pin that needs grease. if it is coming from the pump, then is the regulator ball bouncing on-off the valve seat at high frequency as the pump builds and releases pressure. The solution for that is to take your finger off the button.

+1 on the filler neck info Jerry, I didn't know the fluid resivior wasn't sealed off from the electric motor itself... so that leaves me with a question I better start a new thread.

it is sealed but after 20 years the seal isn't always very good.

Thanks for the replies guys, on account of having a misfiring cylinder #2 now, and this problem not keeping me off the water yet, I'm going to wait for it to get worse and for me to get this new problem(most likely needs a new ign coil) before I do anything about it. Will keep you posted thanks a lot
