I did a search and found plenty but did see anything like this. 1983 75hp Johnson. Trim was working fine and then yesterday while working on lower unit I go to move up then down. While moving down it's working and sounding normal then "eeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr" then nothing and engine lowers about another inch on its own. If I hit switch now I hear sound in the fuse box. Sound even hesitates a second. Hit switch and nothing for a second then "eeeeeee" from fuse box. Have not check fluid yet. Boat and engine are new to me... Learning alot about this ol bugger. Thanks for any help!!!

Re: Tilt trim worked now will not?

get a service manual to start, that will be the best investment you will make....almost sounds like you may have a bad solenoid. you have one for the up position and one for the down... test the tilt/trim motor directly and see if it will do what you want uo and down and up again..you will have to disconnect the motor from the harnes to test it, this will bypass the solenoids for now. then all you need to do is hook up a good 121vdc source to the tnt wires and test...if good...check all your grounds on the solenoid bank and check those solenoids...it sounds like one may be bad...keep us infoed and we'll help some more

Re: Tilt trim worked now will not?

marinegrh... Thanks for the info. I do have a manual and went through it. It was not a lot of help to me. I saw no reference to "solenoids"? I have two plastic boxes about 1" squair in the fuse box. Are these solenoids? Each has about a half dozen wires running to them. I am assuming one is a pos. and one is a neg. When I hit T/T switch these BUZZ. One will buzz up and the other down. It sure seems like an electrical thing but not sure. I will try to hook power to the T/T unit directly and see what happens. Any other ideas? As you can see... I can use all the advice I can get!!! Thanks...

those then are called relays, and they can be a pain to get out, swap them around and see if the problem reverses itself...if so then get a new relay and dont forget to check those grounds, many a man has chased electrical probs only to find a loos ground when the sun went down...

If changing the relays around reverses the problem, replace BOTH.
