tilt/trim

The trim on my mercruiser 120 will not go back up. at first it wouldnt go up or down just make noise then i put fluid in it and now ie will go down but will not go up. i know that the motor and selnoids are trying to work becuase you can hear the click sound and the humming noise. is there anything elese i should try?<br /><br />--------------------<br />scott davison<br /><br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

you need to be sure if the pump motor is humming like its running or humming likes it frozen<br /><br />one way would be to disconect the oil lines and use a tray to catch the mess and see if the pump runs with no load<br /><br />i am guessing that the brushes may be bad in the pump motor<br /><br />tommays

it sounds like it is running down but not up if that is the case you would need to check the up solined<br /><br />it could not be getting power to the sol coil to go up<br /><br />or the sol could be bad and or have a bad connection<br /><br /> http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/6/6C1R3.PDF <br /><br />tommays

I had the same problem with a 1974 188HP MercCrusier in August. after pulling the lines off the drive, I found that only the down was working and barely working. The motor was reently replaced, so I knew that was not the problem. I ended up taking the reservoir unit completely a part and cleaning the every little part. I also blew out the lines and noticed that on of the lines had some build up and was probably clogged. I ended up replacing two lines, doing what was essentially a rebuild of the unit, and it works fine now.
