Have a 1994 115 hp mercury outboard. The trim motor shorted out and now can't raise motor. It moves a couple inches then stops. Tried to pull it up with come along but still can't raise it. Any suggestions? Thanks Lee

Re: tilt trim

...what makes you say the trim motor "shorted out"...??

There are two trim relays on your engine...one has a blue wire for up (sky) and the other has a green wire for down (ground/grass), one of these may be at fault. You can swap them to test and use a multi-meter to test for 12v when trim button is pushed. When your finger is off the switch, then both wires are grounded, when you push "up" the blue wire goes hot and the green one stays grounded. See attached for photo of relays.

Re: tilt trim

Both wires to trim motor are melted together or bare wires.
