tilt trim

hi i have a 50 hp merc i had a 3 wire tilt and trim motor my new motor has only 2 is uses solonoids to work so how do i wire it to new motor please help many thanks rob

So you want to go to a 2 wire PTT motor from a 3 wire PTT motor? The solenoids need to be replaced by relays. The wiring to the PTT motor from the relays is quite different from what you have. Normally the replacement PTT motor would be a kit with the necessary relays, wiring and wiring diaghram. Go on the maxrules website and see if you can find a newer 2 wire Merc PTT wiring diaghram. The should also have one for your original PTT motor. Compare the two.

The big difference is that a relay supplies ground to the PTT motor when not energized. When energized it supplies +12VDC to the PTT motor. A solenoid is either open (not ground) or supplying +12VDC to the PTT motor.
