I HAVE A 1995 112 SPL JOHNSON SPL. I JUST REPLACED THE TILT TRIM MOTOR. THE MOTOR RUNS STRONG BUT THE CYLINDER ISNT GOING UP NOR DOWN. THE TILT TRIM MOTOR SEATED FLUSH AND SCREWS ARE TIGHT. THE CYLINDER WAS WORKING PRIOR TO THE OLD TILT MOTOR GOING BAD WHAT COULD BE MY PROBLEM

How is the fluid? Did you bleed the system? I had that with my Johnson. You may need to lift it manually initially... Raise the tilt fully extended, pistons all the way out, fill it with fluid. Then use the manual release to let it down slowly, you will hear the air burp out. Then tighten down that screw, use the motor to pump it all the way back up and repeat the process, several times. Nice and slow.

(PTT Oil Pump Air Lock)
(J. Reeves)

When the PTT unit is as it should be, the electric motor runs, the manual release valve is closed, the unit is full of lubricant, and nothing works, the usual problem is an air lock under the oil pump Proceed with the following.

Engine in full tilt position. Remove reservoir fill plug screw. Insert a air nozzle up against the reservoir fill hole with rags (or something) packed around it to obtain a tight fit. Apply just a slight amount of pressurized air (10 psi resommended) to the reservoir. This will force the oil under the oil pump to remove the air lock. DO NOT go crazy with the air pressure (15 psi tops!).
