I have a Johnson GT 150 VRO, I believe its a 1985. Today my tilt / trim stopped working. I cant raise or lower the motor at all. I took the cover off and found the cylinoids, (not sure if i spelled that right) and tried the switch again, nothing! The cylinoids are still making a noise like they want to work but it wont raise or lower, can anyone give me some information on this.

Make sure the battery is fully charged. Check the wiring to the pump to see if any are frayed or cut. Make sure all the connections are tight. I'm not totally sure on that year motor and set-up, but I believe that if one selonoid goes out, neither will work. Others may confirm this..

Thanks Rick, i'll look into that. Both selonoids are making a sound like they are trying to work, what is that?

Re: Tilt / Trim

It's unlikely that both relays would fail at the same time.

The electric motor is a dual polarity motor incorporating two wires only. If either wire has failed due to corrosion, breakage, loose connection, whatever, the electric motor will not operate in either direction.
