Tilt Tube Replacement

I am in the process of replacing the steering system on my boat. The cable was frozen in the tilt tube. With a little heat and TLC, I was able to remove the cable from the tilt tube. While I had the tilt tube out, I was going to give it a very good cleaning. However, I have discovered that it is badly corroded and pitted on the inside. I would like to replace it with a stainless steel tilt tube if I can find one. The existing tilt tube measures 7/8" OD x 12" L. My engine is a 1992 Evinrude 48 Hp SPL.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can find this part? My searches on the web have only yielded parts for large V-4 and V-6 engines.

Thanks for your help.

Scott

Re: Tilt Tube Replacement

Hi Two Barrels...welcome to the forums...

I'm fairly sure that all tilt tubes are the same length. The pretty much have to be. So a tube off a V4 would work on yer 48spl.

Keep us posted....thanks.
