Tilt...

When at the dock I tilt my motors (twin 175 HP Evinrudes) to clear the water. This prevents growth build up on the lower unit (except for a very small area). Question: The motor has a tilt lock (do not confuse with trailering lock); should I lock at dock vs just tilting motors up. If I use lock, motors will be further into water. Does this harm hydraulic system over time. A previous thread made me think of this. I'm talking when boat is not in use from week to week. :)

Re: Tilt...

The tilt lock does de-stress the hydraulic system by allowing the weight of the motor to rest upon the lock. Is there that muck differance in the height when locked? You might want to cut some hardwood blocks and insert them to acheive more lock height. I can appreciate not wanting buildup on the motors.

Personally, I would not stress the hydraulic system.

Bob
