Re: Time for new truck tires...which ones?
A lot of how a tire works on a particular vehicle has to do with the vehicle itself.
I swore after having a set of Bridgestone Dueller tires on an older truck a few years ago that I'd never own another pair, but my Ranger came with a set of them on it when I bought it used and they've been fine now for 3 years. Good traction in all situations and they seem to be aging just fine. If and when they get replaced however, my first choice will be Michelin, but cost will have a lot to do with that choice as well.
The only complaint I really have about this set of Bridgestones is that they ride hard but they're a bit heavier than the truck needs, but it's great for towing.
I'm not sure I'll replace these with another set of 6 ply tires or not. They ride far to harsh when not loaded.
My other Ranger, with a set of standard passenger car tires rides about 10 times better and don't seem to mind towing either. But it's not much on dirt or wet grass when towing. The Cooper Lifeliner tires on that truck aren't much for wet traction off the pavement.
I plan to upgrade the wheels on both trucks soon, I already found two sets of OEM aluminum rims, so a fresh set of tires is in order for both. I don't think I'll be shopping for an LT rated tire for either one since I really don't haul any big loads and most of the weight remains on the trailer not so much the truck. If I were towing in the hills or a lot of off road, I'd be more concerned about having a heavier tire.
