Doesn't look like anything I'd associate with a Dodge Charger....:suspicious:

Needs a proper trailer to match. Unless they used the trailer and kept the boat in storage.....

41 years is a long time to just be sitting around. It must have been in a garage, barn, or somewhere else covered. Sure does look pristine to me!

Wow, really clean! I bet it's super stable in the water for a 15' er. What with the semi-trihull design. It really has it's own classic design. like it belongs in a museum. Nah, I'd just use it.

I kinda' like tri-hulls, so that boat appeals to me and what beautiful condition!

The old Chrysler boats have a bit of a following up in your area, so it may be fun to play with for a while. Price ain't too bad if the thing floats and the OB runs.

Re: Time machine !

Chrysler brought out their ?Hydro-Vee? hull design, basically a deep V hull with sponsons for lateral stability. It was the first hull completely designed by Chrysler itself, rather than Lone Star; it came in six different, and all new, forms, ranging from 14 to 23 feet in length; each boat had different styling and shapes. Hot Boat, in a 1967 article posted at TheChryslerCrew, noted that the 16 foot Chrysler Charger with Hydro-Vee hull cost $1,495, and had 183 cubic feet of interior space with a hull weight of 820 pounds and capacity of 1,380 pounds. They called the Charger ?a soft rider with flatter corning ability than a deep V? and noted that the finish and detail were ?excellent.? They liked the new style, and noted that the hull was quieter than most because the bottom was filled with polyethylene foam. The boat was measured at achieving 42 mph within ten seconds, and getting 5.5 mpg at 2,500 rpm, and 4.6 miles per gallon from 3,500-4,000 rpm.

Interesting stuff

Re: Time machine !

dont believe its never been in the water.

if its never been in the water, why is the trailer in such crappy shape? It should be in just as good of shape as the boat is from staying in storage. If it was stored so that the upholstery didnt dryrot or mold/mildew then the trailer shouldnt have rust on it.

why did it need a different engine?

I agree its in really nice shape for its age but there's just bells/whistles going up about never having been used at all.

Families liked tri-hulls, which were very popular at the time, because they were stable. They worked well on flat water, but beat you to death if there was anything more than a ripple on the lake.

The sponsons were out of the water when on plane and just acted like a big reverse chine. Better than a tr-hull but still not as soft as a deep vee in a chop.

I always wondered how they cornered. As soon as that inside sponson touched the water in a turn, it would dig in and you would turn faster !

It is odd that the engine is not original. I would be very suspicious about the health of that motor !

^^^^ if I run across an old Newport Wagon like that, and have the means at the time I'm snaggin' it. It's hard to comprehend the size of that car without gettin' around one. Wow.

Would be awesome with that boat behind it!

Re: Time machine !

Looks like it might have started out in Silver City, New Mexico judging by the fact that it still has a Brown's Auto Sales sticker on it. I remember when Brown's used to be in business there, but I think they've been gone for many years. I suspect that had that boat been used much, if any, over the years, that sticker would have disappeared years ago.

The boat was won in a raffle. It may have been just the boat, with no motor or trailer.

I'm pretty skeptical on this one. The elastic on the pocket would be completely shot by now. I have seen plenty of classic cars with vinyl and never seen it shine like that. But....

If the floors transom and stringers are rock solid and the interior is in that good of shape $3000 is a great price. Maybe even a steal.

Re: Time machine !

It's been on CL for 29 days. One would think if it was such a great deal it would have been sold a long time ago. At that price, you would have to keep it long time to get your money out of it. Because when you go to sell it, the value would drop like a rock. Personally, I wouldn't pay anywhere near what they're asking, but that's just me...... Interesting story tho........

I agree with you on that one. As I keep telling my wife when she goes to yard sales, just because it's old and in great condition doesn't mean it's worth a lot.

The last time I told her that, she told me that the same rule applied to husbands. I'm not quite sure what she meant by that. LOL
