Time to re-prop?

My set-up is like this, I have a 1987 Evinrude 110 horse, model E110tlcur. My boat is a 1983 4winns Marquise 160 F & S. The prop that came with the motor, I got it used about 2 months ago, is 13 3/8 X 17.

My boat is rated for 120 horses. My top speed with this outboard is right around 45 mph. My hole shot couldn't be better.

I have no real complaints with this prop. I do have a concern tho. The max RPM for this motor is 5000 to 5500. I can and have (accidently) had it to6000 rpm. I ended up popping a power pack.

My question is, do I get another, higher pitch, prop to slow down my WOT?
I looked up my motor here on iboats and found a wide range of props that will work for it. I am considering picking up a Turning Point Hustler #H2-1319 Aluminum three blade Propeller. It is 13 1/4 X 19.

All of the 17p props offered are a smaller diameter and I don't think they will help me with my over-revving. There is only one 18p prop offered and it's stainless, way over my price range right now.

I know that the simple solution to over revving is to keep my hand outta the throttle, but, I am not the only one to drive the boat. My daughter is learning to drive it and I really don't want to replace another power-pack. I am not worried about my speed and if I pick up a little more then ok. If I lose a little then ok too.

I may lose a little on the hole shot with this prop but that isn't a concern. I just want to bring the WOT down.

Re: Time to re-prop?

The Hustler is a really agressive prop and usually reduce rpm in the same pitch.
Unfortunately the Hustler performance has been all over the place making one wonder if thgey sare miss marked. When right they generally yeild across the bpoard improvement.I do think I would go with the brand on the boat in a 19.

A quick search with the only other number I can find on the prop, 389948, tells me iboats doesn't sell it. It also tells me that the manufacturer is OEMprop? Never heard of them. It probably means exactly what it says. This prop is original equiptment.

I'm going to do a web search and look at shopevinrude.com and see what I find in a 19p.

Thanks steelspike!!

Re: Time to re-prop?

A web search tells me this is a Michigan wheel prop. So following steelspikes advice I will look at ordering one in a 19p,

We usually suggest sticking with a brand that seems to work because the results
should be more predictable. When you introduce brand, model and or material changes you introduce more unknowns.

I see.
I may eventually still pick up the Hustler. I have heard alot of good things about them, and some bad. Like Steelespike said there is some performance variation.

If/when I do get the Hustler prop, I will post my results and let everybody know what happens!!
