Here's an interesting one for you. has anyone heard about the Time Traveler convention that will be occuring at MIT tomorrow (4/6/05) at 10:00pm?

The idea is crazy, but the logic is this. Slip pieces of paper into books, etc around the campus at MIT and in the future when time travel is possible, people who fine these slips will travel back to this time.

Yeah, I know - crazy. But here's some links.

Yahoo New Time Travelers Conference Article

MIT Time Travelers Conference Website

Soulwinner --- do you recognize the machine at the bottom of the MIT page?

Sean

Re: Time Traveler Convention

Hmm.. seems they ran out of room for attendees. How many people from the future do they expect to come?

Seems like someone from the future would have come back in time to tell them to rent a bigger hall. :D

Ken

Ever hear of John Titor?

They were talking about it on Coast-to-Coast and I was laughing so hard I almost crashed on my way to the Detroit auto show.

Sean

So you laugh about such serious things?
Next thing you will saying that Spinners little buddies arn't real too!
At 10pm our TV goes off and CTCAM comes on.
Normally Mrs.Link goes to bed at 10pm but that night she was finishing up some puter work.
She just looked at the radio and said, now thats going to bring out the weirdo's :D
I only got to hear the first ten minutes as I had a date with a waitress serving coffee. As I do every night at 10pm.

They laugh now, but beware of what you laugh at.
How do you know you have not traveled back in time or are now in the future?
You don't. I know what I seen and went thru is all I can tell you and that my friends was real.

I'm done with this one.

Re: Time Traveler Convention

The principal of time dilation.... Time dialation's a phenomina not much talked about, but it is basically time travel into the future..

Lemme explain..
The time dilation principal states that bodies moving at high velocities experience a time that ticks slower than the time measured at zero velocity.3.... Research experiments have yielded experimental data that conclusively illustrate that fast moving aircraft have traveled into the future....

Example:
In 1975 Professor Carol Allie of the University of Maryland tested Einstein’s theory using two synchronized atomic clocks.... One clock was loaded on a plane and flown for several hours, while the other clock remained on the ground at the air base... Upon return, the clock on board the plane was found to be ever so slightly slower that the one on the ground.... This was not due to experimental error, and has been repeated numerous times with the same result.... This difference in time is even more pronounced in satellites such as the space station... This is because these objects are traveling at speeds much faster and for much longer periods than possible in an airplane.... The faster an object moves, the more time is distorted...

Eventually, space flight may unlock the secret of time itself... This will require the development of spacecraft that can travel at speeds on the order of two hundred million meters per second, that’s about four hundred and fifty million miles per hour.... Craft traveling at this speed will take us near the speed of light, where time actually slows down... This is what’s known as time dilation....

Einstein’s theories predict that the faster a spacecraft moves, the slower time ticks inside of it....

Imagine that a rocket ship takes off from earth and approaches the speed of light.... If we were to watch it from earth with a very powerful telescope as it traveled away from us, we would see everyone inside the ship as being frozen in time... To us their time would slow down, but to them nothing would change....

However, time travel into the past (general relativity) still remains an un-proven theory... But, hey.. Who knows what someone might come up with tomorrow that could turn the theory of realitivity into a hypothisis?...

Rent Planet of the Apes. The original one, not the one with Marky Mark.

We're traveling thru time and space right now. Right here on planet Earth. Planet is traveling around the sun, solar system is slowly spiraling to the black hole in the middle of the Milky Way, and the galaxy is traveling in the universe. I wonder if there is a place in the center of the universe where time stands still???

If the people on this ship were to be looking back at earth they would see the same thing, time slowing down, however if they were to exceed the speed of light they would then start to see time going backwards.

Time travel is possible, but the it would require all of the energy that ever exsited in the universe.

Just a small hurdle.

Ken
