Could a failure in the timer base (sensor coil) change the timing significantly? In order to get my 225 to idle I have to disconnect the linkage to the timer base and rotate it fully counter clockwise to get a idle timing of 8 degrees ATDC. Then rotating it clockwise advances the timing beyond 8 degress ATDC.

Try this, Mark.
Do the link & sync except ignore the idle or throttle pick-up timing. Adjust wfo timing and then adjust idle speed with the throttle linkage and let the throttle pick-up timing take care of itself.

c/6
Hooty
