Having now almost finished building up a replacement powerhead (1997 70 full remote), I need to sort out the timing.

This http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=228183 from the secret files is excellent and pretty much is what I had considered doing. My engine calls for 18 BTDC at WOT and 4 BTDC (3 - 5) at idle, so using this method I would set to 14 BTDC. The only difference is that I will use No1 plug in the engine which will be empty of fuel and the bores / bottom end will be lubed with fogging oil.

However, I am sure my engine has QuickStart (CD3 system) which advances the timing automatically when cold ........... how do I disable this feature ?

Or, if it cant be disabled, how much advance does it provide (I can then allow for it in the above calculations) ?

Thanks ............

OK ........... have had a good search on the forum and have found the answer here

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=443101

So following Joe's method, once I have tied the timer base to the WOT position, then I guess I set the tiiming at cranking to 14 BTDC to give me 4 BTDC @ idle and 18 BTDC @WOT.

I still cant quite work out the 4 degrees difference but if it works then what the hell. ;)
