Timing 3.0L

I have a 1990 merc I/0 3.0L with the digital ignition. There are two wires coming off the distributor (Red & White) going to the module. The question is how do I set/ check the base timing?

Nice picture Rocky, but that's the EST, not the digital.

Thanks Don, I think that did the trick, When I checked it after I warmed it up it was at about 16* btdc I set it to 8* and adjusted the carb and it seems much better, I will find out tomorrow when I take it out.

Well it was a little better, but it sure wasn't perfect. also it back fired a few times while trying to pull a skier out of the water. any ideas?

Ayuh,... That's usually a sign of a Lean condition....

Check,+ Change the Fuel Filters...
