Ive been working on the carbs on a mariner (cleaned and rebuilt them) and it still runs the same. Idles rough, shakes, and not much power WOT. I havent had the engine timing adjusted. Could this be the cause of the problem? Thanks- mason

Sure, timing can make or break it. Can even keep it from starting at all. If the WOT stop isnt set right, you could blow the whole show!! What motor we talking about here?

Do you know the history of the motor? It'd be odd if the timing were that far off unless some idiot and his screwdriver were poking around without a timing light.

Its a 1982 80 hp mariner. As far as history goes, all I know is since ive got it. I started it up on muffs when i got it and it ran, but then it sat around for around a year.
