Timing Mark on Cam Pulley

Hi, I own an '86 Bayliner with a AQ131A 4 Cyl. Volvo Penta motor. We changed the timing belt and the notch on the cam pulley seems to be off about 3/16" from the mark on the valve cover which is almost a tooth. Also the mark on the cover is just a sticker which makes me wonder how accurate it is. The other two pulleys seem to be lined up good. Does this sound like a problem?

JohnMcG
Info on Volvo Belts seems to be minimal. The problem I had a few years ago was the mark on the crank sprocket was not visible.Ordered a new sprocket,no mark visible.Called Volvo...no help.
Finally I installed the belt with the markings orrect on the cam and distributor shaft as the manual showed.Had the keyway on the crank at 12 oclock.
DHP

Re: Timing Mark on Cam Pulley

John, I have an AQ131D and replaced my timing belt last year. I'm not a mechanic but can do basic repairs. As far as I know, the cam shaft pully mark has to line up with the valve cover mark or your going to be off. It took me a while to get it right and I had the book. Hopefully someone with good knowledge, like Bondo will walk you through this procedure.
