Timing Mark Question

I have a '75 merc 650 3 cylinder (as listed in my profile). I'm reading up on how to set the timing. One thing I have yet to figure out is the fixed timing mark. I have the timing marks on the flywheel but I don't see any fixed pointer or mark anywhere one can use as the indicator. My manual shows some kind of pointer attached to the starter but I don't have that on mine. Anyone with the same motor have a timing mark?

Not sure about the 650 but some engines have a removable pointer that may be somewhere in the cowel or set somewhere on the engine. I would also check the intake starter bracket for this mark your mentioning. My 70 HP has a plastic pointer that is atached to one of the starter bolts.
