I have a nice 1986 evinrude 70 hp I picked up. Going over everything the timing plate doesn't seem like it has a lot of range from idle to full throttle. It is contacting the rubber stop at full throttle but when I move the throttle back to idle the timing plate only travels maybe 1 to 2 inches. The screw that the throttle arm contacts at idle is screwed all the way in. I am trying to get this motor set as close as I can while on a stand. Anyone know if the small travel of that plate is normal?

Sounds normal.-----Questions for you.-----How did it run for you last season ?-----What are the compression values ?-----Timing on these motors does not go out of adjustment.

Compression is 135 across all 3 cylinders. I just bought it a couple months ago from someone that had it in storage. I just fully serviced it and going over everything.

I guess as a test I can take the link rod off the throttle arm and check the range of motion of the plate
