timing question 2003 mercruiser 5.0 MPI

OK here is the deal... My buddy has pulled his intake off to fix an intake leak and needs to re-assemble and drop the distributor back in... I know to get it to TDC and drop it in with it pointing at the #1 plug but how to we set the base timing? I know how with the thunderbolts... what is the procedure in doing it with this MPI... is there a timing shunt to connect??

Do you have a flat cap or a round cap on the dist just drop it in, the computer does the rest
