Timing Question Evinrude 115 w/ OIS

Hi there, I'm trying to time a 1997 Evinrude 115 w/ OIS. I have the seloc repair manual and the timing tool, my question is about the instructions, on step 3, it says "Loosen the timer base detent screw, then move both the inner and outer detent tabs completely forward on the detent plate." So which way is forward? Is it toward the front of the engine? On the detent plate there is a + and - icon on each side, is the + side forward? because that's toward the rear of the engine.

I had to replace the stator, I'm thinking forward must be toward the + sign since the CYL light doesn't even turn on at all for both high and low if starting on the - side.
