howdy all,,, i have a 1975 chry 75 horse outboard on the bowfishing boat i built. i am looking for a timing tool,, part # T-2937-1 does anyone know where i can get one? basically it is a threaded hollow tube with a rod in the middle, this rod has two circles on it, these circles in conjunction with the alignment with the tube and the piston will help deterimine 36 degrees before top dead center, this is, according to the book, one of the necessary steps to correct timing.

or is there a way to do it without the tool? and without having the boat in the water,, i'm wide open to your comments and ideas.

You should be able to find TDC pretty easily. Use a long enough screwdriver inserted into #1 cylinder and moving the flywheel clockwise watch and feel the piston closely. Once close, very gently rock the flywheel back and forth a bit to find TDC. Do not go crazy with this last step, if you rotate the flywheel too much in a CCW direction you could damage the reeds. Once you have determined TDC align the timing mark plate in front of the flwheel edge to the "O" mark. From there you can advance the tower shaft/ and distributor if you have one and adjust accordingly to get your 32 degree advance at WOT. Hope this helps.

tdc of course is easy to find, towershaft rod adj is easy to adjust, but how do i know at what degree my engine is set at with out this tool? and wouldnt this adj need to be made when the engine is at full throttle so as to see where the rod should be set in order to reach max output? the book says it should be around 3/8 to 1/2 inch, once everything is set right.

i am most grateful for all your help.

I apologize if my reply was not clear. I thought you were just looking to establish TDC and the rest you knew. Bottom line you don't HAVE to have the special tool to do the TDC & timing job satisfactorily.
Once you have TDC established you do need to set throttle to WOT position. Frank Acampora recently posted a very well written step by step procedure to set your timing and link your carbs. Search this forum for Link & Sync or by Frank's name and you will find the post. I'd just be regurgitating info to you. Good luck...

and my boat shop cant seem to find one,, lol i asked him if i could take measurements of his, and he said sure,, lol but he cant find it,, he doesnt use it, he puts them on the lake to set the timing

I have a T2937-1(the barrel) with T 2937A(the rod) timing tools in perfect new condition.

Also have Chrysler Outboard service manual # OB 1565 in very good condition.

I know the timing tool is very rare, literately none available, nowhere...nohow!
