?Timing usually doesn't move unless someone is tinkering? (Thanks Jerry!). This is one of the best quote I have seen and live by on my 1970 35 HP Chrysler. Old School (on automotives) required constant timing along with the point?s gap/dwell setting on the constant points changed. I have not found a need to adjust my timing once since my 1984 purchase. I did change the points then and not since vs cleaning (because they h/n burned vs contamination from moisture, sitting etc). The key is setting the points correctly and you w/n change the timing. If you have electronic ignition, IMO, a bad crankshaft key, worn parts or tinkering would change timing.
