I have a lot of questions. I just bought this boat and don't know much about i/o's.
I have a 3.0 4 cyl. 89 omc cobra. I can set the timming to run at an idle or high rpm but don't seem to be able to do both. I don't know what advances the timming.
What is the shift assist and what does it do?
Could a chevy car distributor with electronic ignition be used. I have been told you can drill the carb. to pick up vacum for the timming advance for this.
Just a lot of questions and not many answers.
I am a fair mech. on older cars and have some skills.
Thanks for any help

Re: timming advance

an automotive distributor is not ignition protected as required by uscg and vacunm advance is unwanted and unneeded in marine application. does your present distributor have points?
