I just bought a tiny tach for my 86 force 125. If anyone has installed one on this motor could you tell me what degree to use. It’s pre set to 360 degrees but I’m not sure if I should leave it or change it. Also, is there a preferred plug wire to wrap the red wire around? Thanks for any information you can give.

Don't know which is the factory setting for your motor as some motors which fire dual sparks per revolution are set to 180º. Wind the pick-up cable on any spark plug cable of your election, just follow the installation procedure. Start the motor and if reads double rpm reset the tach to 180º.

Normal rpm while pushing the boat (not on muffs in your driveway ) would be from 800-5300.

So if you are getting 8000 or 10,000 rpm, it is not right.

At idle anything over 2000 might be double.
Timing is usually done with the top plug so use it.
IF?? the TT requires a ground(my cheapo doesn't need one, my first TT did), make sure it's a GOOD one.
Some screws have sealer on the threads and won't make a good contact.

Those TT tachs works without the ground wire attached, anyway check that the rpm shown are steady state...
