At PIB they always have nice guys come out and help you get set up. Always seems to be a different guy when I leave. Do you tip? Who gets it?

IDK..... I always throw the gas attendant (he is also the marina's main employee a beer when I get fuel or a favor (ice before hours, help docking, ect.) from him. Never seen anyone tip him, but I figure giving out a left over beer from my good day on the water is a nice gesture.

I'll tip the fuel attendant if he helps me with my lines coming in, otherwise, all they do is hand you the fuel hose so you can pump.
I ALWAYS tip if Im having my blackwater tank pumped. Talk about a crappy job... ;)

They actually let you pump it? Lots of marina's won't let you touch the gas pump even, their insurance doesn't cover if you spill fuel but they are going to be partially liable.

I've been known to tip the gas attendants. Doesn't help they put the best looking and well tanned females they can find on dock duty...

Re: Tipping at the public dock?

I tip anyone who's job it is to assist me with the boat. If there is more than one person working the dock, then I expect that the person who helps me arrive may not be the person who helps me depart. If it's a transient dock and hours will elapse before I depart, then I tip both just in case. If there is more than one person at the fuel dock, I tip the primary who helps me. I let them figure out how to split it up. I don't hide the tip ,so I expect they have a means of ironing that out. I'll tip teh person who gets me ice, usually about $1.00 for every 2-3 bags.

I don't tip the boater who decides to be a good samaritan, however if their job is a 'dock hand' then they are working for a living to help ME, and I show my appreciation likewise. It's hard to justify spending $100 on gas and not slipping someone $10.00.
