Withen the next couple of weeks I should be ready to attempt this on the deck and I have a couple of questions.

What is the best way to apply it, Roll and Tip?

Should it be thinned or apply as it it?

I will be using the US Composites nuetral gel coat that I will be tinting to off white. I also have the waxing agent for the top coat.

I did buy a gelcoat dump gun but could not figure out a good way to use it. The issue I was having is that since there is no needle in the tip, the fluid just ran out whenever the gun was pointed down making a big mess. Am I missing something with the operation of it?

Re: Tips for gelcoating deck

It depends on what you mean by deck.

In building fiberglass boats the deck is the upper section of the boat, not the floor.

For the floor just roll it, forget the tipping, and add some nonskid grit.

For the deck, its better to spray, gel coat doesn't roll and tip all that well.

Dump guns have no needles, they work just like you found, the gel coat just pours out of the tip when you tilt it down, the trigger just turns on the air to make it atomize, well for a dump gun it's more of a spatter.

Dump guns need a great deal of air to work well, so you need a good sized compressor.
