Re: Tire Brands

Over the years I have tried others. I always return to Michelins. Their construction is unique in the tire industry. That is one of the reasons that they (IMHO) are the best riding tire. I always get great mileage performance out of them as well.

Re: Tire Brands

I would just like to give my most sincere thanks to all respondents. For what it's worth, I'm replacing the tires on a '98 Mercury Mountaineer that has about 135K miles and is never used "Off-Road". Most of my driving is within 20 miles of home on Long Island, NY (Parkway, Expressway & local roads, never over 70 MPH.)

Thanks again,
Nick

My last three sets of tires on my Grand Cherokee have been coopers, great tires good prices and service after the sale has been fantastic, I live 7 miles from the closest pavement and they hold up great.

I like coopers as well.... I just last winter had the Cooper Mud and Snow's thrown on for the winter.... they performed amazingly, and clean out better than any BFG's I've had in the past. This year will be the second winter on them and they show NO wear yet.... I'm impressed, and happy to save the money.... I don't think its all what you pay for in reality. I've also never had a set of BFG's last for more than 35,000 miles, and I regularly rotate every oil change and once a month double check the tire pressure.

My old man always runs Michelin, and swears by them..... I need more aggressive traction than they offer.

I've never gotten less than 60k on my Jeeps with BFG's. Never had a flat either after running over some pretty nasty stuff after three sets of tires. But they can be noisy late in their tread life which I don't really care about on my Jeep so much as I would Mommy's Avalanche. I've always gotten great service from them.
The thing that stopped me from the Coopers in the past was the lack of full depth siping which means decreased wet grip over time. Yes they wear like iron, but they get slippery over time. Unless Cooper has changed that since I've last looked at them, that would be my only concern.

I'm not saying that all cooper's are great..... in fact all I used to run was BFG's on the truck (2003 GMC). I was swore to by my tire guy that its all he runs on all of his trucks for plowing season, and if I didn't like them he'd buy em back from me..... I'm very glad I gave em a chance. I have not had any slippage problems at all. I'm wondering if the weight difference plays a part in our millage out of the BFG's. I'm guessing your jeep is a bit lighter than my truck. Funny this thread came up as it reminds me to go get the cooper's thrown back on for the winter season.

Re: Tire Brands

Had the Michelin LTX-MX2's put on yesterday. Dry and wet traction is very good (snow is not a big concern here). They are quieter than the previous stock Goodyear Wrangler SR-A. $927 out the door and I still have a $70 rebate to mail in. Free rotation for life. Ended up getting them locally. They even picked up the truck and delivered it back when done. Free rotation for the life of the tires.

I had 51K miles on the Goodyears, but they were worn beyond the safe limit IMO. No steel showing, but starting to get slick. Wet traction was compromised. So maybe a good 47-48K is a more accurate. Like I said before, I think they would have been in better shape ever all had I been a little more diligent with the rotations.

Time will tell how these new ones do, but I like them so far.

Re: Tire Brands

on motorcycles it's dunlop or Avon for me
on my truck and my Jeep it's BFG All Terrain
the car has Dunlop as well

never owned a Michelin tire, I heard bad things years ago and since have never had a reason to try them. I like what I use.

Re: Tire Brands

I'm partial to the American Prospector truck tires. The Prospector SUV will be going on my Ram when the junk Badyear sr/a's wear out. Will probably replace at the first of 2012. My dad got 60k out of his first set of Prospectors and is now on his second set. I had a set of the a/t's on my Sierra and they offered great traction and made it turn on rails. When I traded that truck in the Prospectors had nearly 40k on them and looked to have another 10k left in them at least.

Re: Tire Brands

Michelin make a great tire...consistently at the top of the quality spectrum. However, for those stuck on the 'buy North American' thing..they have to pass on this choice.;):D:D
......or not?

Re: Tire Brands

I have Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 on the Accord and Michelin Cross Terrain SUV on the Tahoe. The Cross Terrain is quieter and handles better than the LTX
