Anybody else sick of the constant doom and gloom prophecy the media is allways emulating. Seems like every headline is worded to sound a little more terrifying than the last. It is difficult to remain positive when the source of our information is so hell bent on the negative.

I almost feel that the media is a terrorist organization of sorts. Not so much the bomb and mortar type but a far more stealth network that will break our spirit by bombardig us with hoplessness of our situation.

Maybe a little extreme? Maybe not, all I know is that Im tired of getting depressed every time I turn on the news... good things happen too ya know.

Being tired of bad news means you must be ready for change. That's what the media is betting on. There are a couple media outlets that are less biased or biased in the opposite direction but almost nothing in print and very little on cable TV.

If you have survived hard times it doesn't worry you. You know you will get by. It is a great advantage to have lost everything and been hungry, then came back stronger than ever.

The media mostly offers what people will watch, without regard to whether they like it or not.

Yes, I am sick of doom and gloom, too, but my attitude is, "So what?"

Don't blame the media, they are just giving us what we want.

Humans crave the experience of disaster, pain, misfortune and suffering. Not in a perverse way, but for the "human experience" and the feelings that it brings.

(9/11, Tsamanis, Katrina.) Horrible as they were, people could not get enough of the events, even years later. I remember watching the local coverage of the L.A. riots for days. It was like a facinating, scary movie, only real.

Even shows like "Extreme Home Makover", something terrible or painful, has to happen to the recipient, before they get the free house. My wife is in tears when that show is on. I'll even get a little misty, even though I'm working on the computer, barlely listening to the show.

Remember, every TV and radio has an "off" switch" :)

Exactly.. I've even gotten to the point that I don't watch TV anymore, except for occasionaly the Science Channel, Discovery Channel, or a movie.

Like "Network" I finally said "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!":D

Yep, tired of it, scream at the Telly and tell them where to get off, then change the channel to something different or turn it off.

It does get bad at sometimes. Even some of my favorite channels, such as TDC, TLC, and Science Channel are going into controversial political issues so they can show their "with" the majors. that's why I have been so active here on iBoats. Oh, and the fact that (I think) I am only a couple away from my next iBoats ranking promotion. :D

I was watching some Australia news the other day and most of it was all good news about the boom of their economy. There is good news, you just have to dig a little deeper. ;)

Great response JB
I could not agree more. The media rely on sensationalism to survive and that is what they try to do.
Look at other aspects of life as well. When did we ever get told that we needed good sources of "Omega 3" and the such like or we would be dreadfully ill !!!! and unhealthy. Remember the Ritalin fad that everyone that wanted to be fashionable put their children on to keep them under control ?? from being hyperactive etc. That and attention defecit disorder, yet another new ailment invented to make money from the masses.
When I was young those types of disorder were cured in a heartbeat by my parents or my teacher at school as it hurt to act that way !!!! and you pretty much stopped doing it instantly !!!!
