Title question from Florida

What'sup guys haven't used the website in a few years. I just restored my first boat and I have a bit of a sticky situation. I work for a custom boat builder and have all the free materials I need or want and just pulled the funds together to rebuild a '1986 seacraft'. About 6 months ago I purchased a junkyard flats boat and re did it all. The VIN numbers were destroyed and the guy at the junkyard gave me a title to a 1986 sea craft..... the boats all re-done now and just needs to be rigged. Luckily i didn't put too much into fiberglass work but I don't like this title situation. What can I do to get it a homemade title? I have no receipts of fiberglass or resin. I could possibly get it from work but the receipts wouldn't be in my name. What would be the easiest route to get a homemade title? it's 18 feet looks like a hews or maverick. I appreciate any advice and I hope the thing isn't stolen. When I took the old cap and deck off and replaced it I found no HIN numbers so there's no way to identify the boat. Any suggestions? Should I just use the sea craft title even though google hasn't showed me anything with a sea craft looking flats boat?

Easiest to just use the title you have.

Fwiw I've seen more than a few boats titled, shall we say, incorrectly.

I honestly don't think the state gives a crap. 'Specially when it's that old.

They'd much rather collect revenue from you vs nitpick over whether the boat is what the title says it is.

Btw it'd be very difficult obtaining a 'homebuilt' title. Because, truly, your boat isn't. They don't give those things away any more.

Get a title for a home made hull. BTW, some counties are easier than others to deal with.

Any Florida tag agency can answer your question - that's what they do.

Well that or you'll be met with a blank stare ...

In MN the DMV handles all the DNR (boat) transactions. I once had an agent tell me "I don't give a S____ about the DNR.

I would go in and try to get a homemade title, maybe try a few different offices if you get the blank stare or turned down. If that fails then just use the title you have.

Once again, to everyone making suggestions, this thread is specific to Florida. What works in one state won't necessarily translate to another, as each state has a unique set of title and registration requirements for boats (which is why I'm just sitting back and watching, since I'm in Georgia).

If I get this straight, the guy that sold you the boat also gave you a title? Use it!

Simply go to DMV with the old title & a bill of sale. Furnish ID & money, and yer good to go.

Your trying to do the "right thing" is admirable, but I think you're asking for nothing but headaches'n heartaches trying to "change things". DMV don't like change ... Use the paperwork you have.
