Got a question: I'm about to purchase a remanufactured Metc 2 bbl carb for my 1999 Mercruiser 4.3L V6 (807764). Can i, instead, replace it with a later, TKS model (866141)? What else would I need, and is it even a worthwhile "upgrade"? Thanks!

To make the TKS Carb system work you would have to (or best to) buy a Mercruiser TKS Carburetor Retrofit Kit That Fits MCM 4.3L engines (s/n 0L619000-0W300012) as it would come with the needed wiring harnesses, fuse, diode, Temp sensor, carb gaskets, etc.. You may also need a special idle mixture tool 91-866201 to help fine tune any needed adjustments, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercury-Mar...kAAOSwouxezQB6

That mentioned, a higher percentage of users/owners tend to give this system negative reviews as a whole as it could present additional problems over regular carb issues.

Mercury Quicksilver Part Number 865960A02 - Carburetor Retro is equivalent to parts:

Thanks for the reply! But after my post, I read up on the TKS system, and it seems that all it does is save you from having to pump the throttle a couple of times before cranking...doesn't seem worth the trouble/expense to me. I think I'll just stick to my regular carb.
i wish I could find a used 4bbl setup...

buy 4-barrel carb (Edelbrock 1409)
buy 4-barrel intake (cast iron or dual-alloy)
buy intake gaskets (Felpro)
install.

plenty of used intakes on fleabay and CL

expect to pay about $500-$600 for a used setup by the time you go thru the carb

even if you needed to buy everything new your under $800 for cast iron and about $900 for aluminum dual alloy intake

Thanks for the input! Any chance you have a part number for the manifold I would need to go with that 1409 carb? Thanks!

Ok, looks like it's the Edelbrock 2519 intake manifold that goes with the 1409 carb. My next question is: is this what came stock from Mercruiser when their 4.3L was ordered with a 4 bbl? I would've thought it would've been a Rochester or Weber setup...

At one point rochester, later weber. 1409 is apparently a clone of the weber
