I have a '52 TN-24 johnson seahorse. I went through and replaced gaskets, impellor and rebuilt the carb. it runs sweet, but my question is, when I dropped the lower unit the clutch spring is on the lower part of the driveshaft. Should I use grease on that spring, or bath it in gear-lube. I believe thats what was on it when I disassembled it.

Re: TN-24 question

It is lubricated by the oil in the gearcase. Fill it to the level of the top plug with 80-90w outboard gear oil.

Um, did you dump the oil on your shoes when you took it apart? Most everybody else does. Heh-heh. (Just pokin a li'l fun)

No I didn't..hehe It had an oil film on it when I took it apart, thats why I asked. Maybe I should re-fill the lower unit(doh!)
