Can anyone identify what and where these parts go? I am trying to revive a 52 TN28 and while trying to put the drive shaft back up the drive tube this is what blocked the path. So it had to have come loose when I removed the lower unit and shaft. It is about 1/4 inch larger than the shaft and for the life of me, can't figure where it goes. Appreciate any input...

I am geussing here but I would thnk it is a seal on the bottom of the powerhead, maybe shine a light up inside the leg and see if that is where it goes,a s I sadi just a geuss but if it isn't part of the lower that has to be where it came from.

Good guess. It is the lower crankshaft seal, less the spring. Actually it is not a real seal, but more of a shield to keep water away from the bearing, where it could be sucked into the crankcase. Problem was, water could get past it (red arrow). So.......they came out with a "real" seal modification kit, a carbon seal. Very effective, but probably unobtainable nowadays.
