Hi folks,d:)

I have found an ad of a used Johnson 6hp, Model 6BAL77M, longshaft, with only 25 hours use according to the owner, last use was in 1995.
Since the owner lives away from town, I cannot check the motor onsite, but there are some pictures available.
Is it worth buying it (it is sold only about $400), since it seems to be a ~30yr old motor?
Will it be ok for at least 2-3 yrs? Would I be able to find parts? Or should I look for a newer motor?
Intended use is on a 21ft sailboat as auxiliary.

I would appreciate any response

That's a great motor,

BUT! If it has a dead hole (cylinder) it's junk.

Since you can't see it, it's your bet.

I'd bet it's OK, compression wise.

Those engines were very forgiving of past sins. Unlike the Japanese motors.

When you get it, replace the water pump and give it a whirl. I'll bet it will outlive you-with little care..

Other than the water pump, the most you'll ever do to it is: a carb rebuild (get the junk out) and new spark plugs-CHAMPIONS only.
