Hi guys, just want to see what you all think about a possible purchase.

The hull is 22'8 1986 Renken center console. It has a raised deck in the bow area with two storage units. The console used to have speakers but it looks like there is raw glass there now. Two more storage units on the floor of the stern. There were some very soft spots on the deck right before the bow near both gunwales? New stainless 80gal. fuel tank.

The engine is a rebuilt 1993 Johnson 225 outboard. He said new pistions, tie rods, and bearings. Too much HP for the hull? It is mounted on a dusky type platform to the transom. The steering ram is not connected and the head was off but he said that he will hook everything up before I get it, if I get it. There was no battery, he said he would jump it from his truck for me. The temp/tachometer gauges werent hooked up. No running lights. He has a prop but it wasnt on. No bilge pump.

As I am typing this I am realizing Im probably not gonna get this but let me tell you what I like about it.

Very deep gunwales, maybe mid thigh high. Very wide beam and open stern area for fishing. And the price, $2600

Def. gonna need some TLC the question is how much and is it worth it

Re: to buy or not to buy

Hmmm, a boat from a company that is no longer in business, with soft spots, powered by a motor from a company that went bankrupt, and is not offered again this year? Yeah, I am thinking this falls into the "more trouble than it's worth" catagory. But maybe I am crazy?

Sounds like a project the guy decided not to finish. If the motor was all together, ran great, and he had recipts for the rebuild (as they say on here a rebuild with no receipts is no rebuild) there would be some value in the motor. There really isn't any value in a hull that probably needs deck, stringers, and transom work. It's a buyers market right now. You could find something better for your couple grand.

any warranty on rebuild? Sounds more like a project. If that is what you want there you go.

He said he was an outboard mechanic back when he lived up North and that he did the rebuild by himself???

probably best to let this one go. For that money, you can do much better.
