I have bypassed the VRO pump on my 1996 130 johnson, I have read
lots of post where people lot's of them have done so. My ? is will doing so
just pluging off the oil line to the pump and mixing the oil in my tank like the old days will this lean out my motor? someone told me in fact it will!
Told me to remove the VRO Pump and replace it with old style pump.
OK If this is true what pump should I use?

Re: To Bypass the VRO or Not

Your motor came with a OMS pump which is as good as any, whether you use it as built or as a premix pump. The OMS is more powerful than a lift pump.

The OMS mixes at a ratio said to average 60:1, while premix requires a fixed ratio of 50:1.

The only risk in pre-mixing is if you forget to add oil.

Lots of good reading can be found here: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/VRO.html

the pump will not lean it out, if you block off the oil line it will pump just what you put in the tank. the VRO systems were a Variable mix pump. the OMS system is fixed ratio pump.
