I have a 1972 Evinrude 65 horse outboard on a 15" glass Dogget. Hunting season is coming up so I don't think I will be getting the boat out again until next Spring. What should I do to store it for the Winter. Thanks!

1st. but some moffs on it and run it for 30 minuts, for the first five minutes with the cover off the outboard spray water trying to cleen it, stop spraying water at it for the last 15 minutes

2. while running sprayfogging oil into the carbarator keep spraying untill itstops, there will be a **** of alot of smoke (also run you engine with duble the oil mixture)

3. remove spark plugs and clean them and rejust the gap, spray a ton of foggin oil into the cylanders!

4 out spark plugs back in

5. remove the carbarator and cleen out that way it will not varnish when in storage

6. remove all gas from fuel lines, and empty gas tank, never just fill it up with stabalizer

7. turn engine over as many times as possible

8. remove the thermostat, and turn engine over again, then poor antifreec into the opening a turn engine over, if you can pump anti freez into the moffs to get itthrough the systom.

9. greese all fittings, and remove the propellor and have it fixed if needed, greese the prop shaft and don't leave the prop on for the winter

10 remove impellor and replace if needed

11. replace lower unit oil. !!! good luck!

This sure is allot to do! We really don't have much of a Winter here in North Texas. The motor will set for maybe only 5 or so months. I didn't think it would be this much a pain in the boat to do.

Welcome to the world of boating. It isnt so much the cold you are trying to protect from. It is the sitting. Gas and grease get gummed up after sitting for a while. You will be glad you did what needs to be done in the spring when you turn the key and she starts right up.Good Luck

I've always heard NOT to empty the gas tank and run the fuel out.. Reason being, if you empty the tank, then there's more of a chance of condensation forming. Also, there's no way to run all the fuel lines completely dry, so the residual gas/oil mix could gum up the lines and carburator(s). What I've heard to do is fill the tank completely up with gas/oil/stabil mix.. Run the motor for a good 15-20 minutes to make sure that the stabil-mixed fuel is in the lines and carburators, so that nothing gums up or gets condensation. Everything else mentioned sounds about like what I've heard of doing.

i flush out all lines and carbs with carb cleaner and open the drains on the bowls. and put some rags to catch the carb cleaner comming out. that usually gets all the gas-oil out. leave it to drain. i take the tank out and pour in some of that methanol and swishi it around and dump it in the driveway and light it. then i put the tank in the garage for the winter with the cap off. when i go to put it back in i rinse it again with methanol and pour that onto the driveway and light it. everything else is the same.

This has worked for me in our 3 month off=season.Add stabilizer to a 6 gal tank of fresh gas. Add oil for 50:1 mix. Run motor FAITHFULLY at least once per month to keep fresh fuel in system. If you don't run it, it's not going to work.

One more thing that will save you a lot of grief. Get rid of the old gas in your main tank and start every season with fresh gas.
