Re: to much hp ?

I take it you have an Alpha One?

The Alpha is good to up to 300 Hp Max

The Bravo One is the next step up and good for a max of 400 Hp

You do need a differant bell houseing though. I think your transom plates and Trim system is the same though so you have a few things that will need changing out.

I do beleive your Alpa will be over worked with 330 HP but you may be able to do a drive cooler and and get it to except the added 30 Hp. Im not really sure if there is a drive cooler also known as a drive shower for an Alpha Drive.

Im not even sure how a drive cooler works. Ive read some posts and seen one at a boat show (bravo one) but I have no idea how they work or if they really do.

Go to:
http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines/inboards/sterndrives/bravoone_specs.php

This is the info on the Bravo One drive and you can also get specs on the Alph drive here as well.

Of course this if you have a Mercruser to begin with!

If it's an automotive engine, it won't last long in a boat. If it's actually a marine engine with that HP, then the Alpha isn't the drive you need or want.

As far as the drive, given the 330hp is a rating at the crank, it will be very close to 300 at prop, which the merc are rated at. Don't hammer it, and probably ok. Drive shower will help keep things cool if you make long wot or near wot runs.

With the type of questions you're asking, sell the rebuilt engine.
Get a stock marine engine, less headaches, money and wasted time.
If you bolt that rebuild in, you will have to change the gear ratio on the Alpha to 1.32:1 from the stock 1.5:1.

Re: to much hp ?

Just google the chevy part number: 10067353 and you will find several places that sell it. In fact, Scroggin Dickey advertises that engine for $1499.95.

Re: to much hp ?

I'm considering a GM #12499529(about $1850). Rated @290 hp. At boat WOT , I would guess it to be closer to 260 hp. Don't know if #10067353 has the desired hp. Any suggestions from any piston-heads ?

Re: to much hp ?

Googled the above engine and it's not intended for marine use according to Jegs, etc. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings..

Re: to much hp ?

You will have to search for the part numbers, but lots of info here:
http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/ChevySmallBlockV8s/290hp350gm.cfm

Ck the head gasket part number, but think it is a ss steel/graphite, which would be ok for marine.

Need more data on cam but there is a good chance it is a problem, based on lift/duration.

I'd also make sure the 76cc heads were heavy duty.

The 290hp is crankshaft and w/headers. W/4brl intake, it is probably a 250hp at prop.

I prefer this one:
http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/ChevySmallBlockV8s/330.cfm
But you still have research to do.

You need the cam spec but appears a little milder than engine above.

This will be no problem w/alpha drive. prop hp will be around 280hp.
