To much oil from VRO?

My 1991 Johnson 155 commercial Mod # J155WTXESM appears to be leaking oil out of the carbs after shutting down. This occurs after running at low RPMs for a while through no wake zone to dock. Could it be RIO pump is over pumping? I am going to plug oil vacuum line and premix to confirm. Is 501: the proper mix for only premixing?

Just ran motor (fuel & OIl through VRO. Shut down and tipped up and a good aout of gas/oil come out of all 3 carbs. Is this normal for a 2 stroke? If not any ideas on why this is happening?

Re: To much oil from VRO?

If there is some oil/fuel mixture running out of the carbs when you tilt the motor up after shutting it down this is not unusual for 2 cycle outboards. If the motor is running OK I would not worry about it. The vro might be pumping too much oil only if there is some sort of restriction in the fuel (gas) line or something from preventing the vro from getting sufficient gas, but then you would have very poor performance. Again many 2 cycles will leak fuel/oil out of carbs when tipped up. If there is a large amount of oil are you sure it isnt leaking oil at a fitting?

Re: To much oil from VRO?

I was just told that this is normal from a friend. I just wanted to be sure that this was not a problem. I guess the correct thing to do is put some oil absorbant pads under the carbs to suck it up prior to leaking into the lagoon. The motor runs real stong so I am not going to mess with the VRO pump. Thanks for the feed back.
