Ok guys, Ive asked before but I gotta ask again. Ive been told several times that It would be better to reinvest my money in a new outboard than to repair my '98 Johnson ficht 175. Dealer said approx $2500 to repair 2 cylinders. Ive been upset about the whole fichting deal but as i get closer to pulling the trigger on another motor, I cant get over my super clean 175 with $500 just spent on the lower unit only being worth $500 as salvage. Can this motor be a reliable motor again? Will new Bombardier parts make any differnce? Is tech assoc with 97-98 fichts always going to give me problems? Can closer monitoring of my oil injection, carbon buildup, etc help?

If it wuz me, I'd get the shop manual first , study it carefully and see what all rebuilding it entails and then ask myself "can ya do it?". If you decide to do it, you'll need the manual anyway, and if not, you can always sell the manual.

c/6
Hooty
