:confused:I Have a used Minn Kota Mag 36W bow mount electric trolling motor that came on a boat I bought. Can't quite figure out how to operate it especially the steering. I believe the 2 cables along the power cord to the unit are seized, as well as that shaft turned by the teardrop shaped plastic knob. And the big foot pedal seems on a bind somewhere other than the two pivots, also. Might someone familiar with this model be able to give me a brief tutorial? If so, thanks........

If the cables are bound up the foot pedal can't move them. Generally pivoting the foot pedal forward (step on the front of the pedal) turns the motor one direction and stepping on the back turns it the other. There is a dial to select speed, and perhaps there is also a MOM-CON switch that allows you to select MOM (momentary) meaning the motor runs only when you step on the button. Setting that switch to CON (continuous) means the motor runs all the time at whatever speed you have it set for. Don't know what knob you are talking about.

Thanks so much for the response. Yes there is the MOM/CON switch. No doubt the cables are seized. The various types of cables exposed to the elements sure do give us trouble, especially certain brands of older car's emergency brake cables. And remote marine control cables. That knob I mentioned is on top of the cowling at the top of the driveshaft and is probably a tensioner for the steering cables. I was going to sell this motor, I won't use it, I use a 3HP gamefisher as my kicker. And I don't want to spend any real time or money on this only to sell it, so I should just "dismiss" it to the metal recyclers, if it doesn't sell "as is" on Craigslist. The motor, speed control, and MOM/CON switch all work, just can't steer it.
