Installing a new long block 4.3 l Vortec in my 2000 Larson. I'm getting a new gasket kit, but I know some gaskets get installed 'dry' and some should be installed with a sealer. Which gaskets are installed dry and which should have a sealer and what type.

Exhaust manifold to head gasket,

Exhaust riser to exhaust manifold gasket,

Intake manifold gasket,

Distributor gasket,

Thermostat housing gasket,

Motor comes with water pump and oil pan installed, so I'm good there.
Thanks!

None actually need sealant.
Me personally
Manifold to head. Dry

Riser to manifold. Indian head shellac or aviation form a gasket on both sides of the gasket.

Intake. Use a bead of silicone on the end instead of the cork or rubber. None on the gasket I think that engine has a nicely made gasket with sealing beads in the right spots.

Distributor and thermostat. None.

Everybody has their recipe. That's mine. YMMV.

Only use Volvo gaskets for the riser manifold connection and use what they specify.

Don't go by what's in the manual. Go by the instructions that come with the gaskets. Volvo changes these at times.
