Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what I should do as far as my two boats. I have a 1775 21 foot Delta and a 1986 16 foot glastron. The Glastron has a 140 hp 3.0L mercruiser four cylinder while the 21 footer has a 188 hp 302 mercruiser888. I was thinking about selling the bigger boat because it can be a pain to trailer back and forth. I also kinda need the money, but I'm not so sure that the four cylinder will perform well enough. I plan on using it for kneeboarding and possibly wakeboarding and skiing. I actually like the way the smaller boat is set up better than the bigger one. It would be big enough to seat all the people I would take out and would be great as long as it has the power to haul us around the lake with relative ease. I've had underpowered boats before and that's no fun. The Glastron is still a "project" boat. The floor and stringers have to be replaced as well as some minor engine work, however, it should be relatively easy for this particular boat. I contacted Glastron a while back and they sent me a copy of the original diagrams. I guess what's holding me back is that I was thinking of putting the v8 into the smaller boat. I already have everything I need to do the swap. The added weight doesn't bother me because it really isn't all that much. Since I already have to rebuild the stringers and transom I can just build them up a little. My only concern is the legality of it. There is only a 48 horsepower difference between the two as they are set up now, but torque is what moves a boat. If y'all were in my position what would you do? If the four cylinder has enough power I would really like the fuel economy, but I just think that v8 would make that thing really fly
. Any opinions are appreciated. Also, I should add that the floor in the 21 footer is starting to get soft and I suspect the transom could have issues in the future and it wouldn't be an easy replacement.

James

PS: Here is a link to some pictures of them: 21 foot Delta

16 foot Glastron
