To trust or not 470 factory rebuilds

Newbie here, just registered. I have a stuck 470 that has sat for 21 years while I raised a family. To rebuild it myself makes sense but to save time a factory rebuild would be ok. But since I got burned on a rebuilt engine for my '66 ford P/U I've been down that road. Seems they will bore out cylinders to the nth degree in an attempt to get something going. Cylinder walls were thin at .030 over. Cracked wall resulted. So...??? Any thoughts? Any reputable rebuilders out there? I live near Seattle, Wa. and USENGINES is close. They offer a 7 year warranty, but ??? Thank You.

Re: To trust or not 470 factory rebuilds

There is only ONE place to get a "Factory" bebuilt engine for a 470, and that is from Mercruiser.
Any of the places like Usengines, Rapido, Jasper, etc. are engine rebuild companies that sell rebuilt engines very cheap.
Mercruiser will not bore a marine engine over .030. Same with Volvo and OMC when they were in business.
These rebuild companies bore everything to .060. That eliminates measuring, as that takes time and you would have to check each engine block and show some care in the rebuild. The reason for such great warranty is because they fail quite often. They are rebuilt and with all the new pistons, rings, bearings, machining, and labor they can sell a V8 long block for 1200 to 1400 bucks or so.
