today at the ramp

My wife and I decide to go sailing today so pick our boat up at the storage facility and take it to the ramp. In the parking area we raise the mast and rig the sails then pull down to the ramp. Four ramps, but only two that allow you to use the pier to hold your boat while the car is parked. We get down there and there is one backing in on one side and one pulling his trailer out on the other already having launched his boat. There is a boat load of people in the one boat that is already launched and I know they are waiting for the guy that parked the trailer so no problem we just wait. He comes down and gets in his boat and then just sits there. So after a minute or so I get out of the car and look down at him. He says that they will just be a minute they are waiting for the guy in the other boat so they can go our together. At that point my reply was I hope so and just start backing down the ramp. He got the idea and moved his boat. Just so happens that coming in to the ramp we see one of the same two boats going in ahead of us to wait at the pier. We are motoring in to take the other side when the other of the same boats goes around us to beat us to the pier. We stand off and once they see they have their boat on the trailer motor up to the pier. It is a long pier and no danger of hitting them. One of the women said something that I did not fully hear, but it was directed at me. I just left my wife to hold the boat while I went to get the trailer.

they said they would be a minute....were they longer, or did you start whining out loud at that point. hope you were at the pier that allowed for holding your boat while waiting for your trailer.

if you take the time to read my post you will see that I did not have a problem with them waiting for the driver to get back to the boat. We were doing the same thing. After he got in the boat and then sat there for some time then I said something. If he wanted to wait for his buddy to finish launching he can do it at the no wake buoy and then go out together.

Ditto.
What's that got to with the ramp, especially since he was already rigged and ready to go.

for the record I own two motor boats. It just so happened that I had the sailboat that day. all you need for a motor boat is the ability to turn a key. Sailboats are a bit more.

A few years ago I took sailing lessons and learned the basics of operating a little Sunfish sailboat. Great fun. Someday, probably after I retire, I will have the time and patience get and learn to sail a larger sailboat. One the wife and I can spend a few days on.

Until then, the hectic and rapid pace of life with kids and job pressures keeps me in the "turn key" crowd. :D

When you're doing something that's maybe old-fashioned, but way beyond the peanut crowd, they generally make snide remarks to cover their insecurity.

Sigh, doesn't hurt unless you buy into it.

Sail to your hearts content.
I love sailing and one day when the kids leave the nest I will be sailing again.
It is just so darn hard to pull a skier with a sail boat.
However, I pulled a many a college girl around Lake Travis on a float while in school. For all of you younger guys out there a sail boat is the easiest dating machine there is. Most chicks have been on a ski boat, ect. Very few have ever been sailing. For the cost of some gas for the car and snacks you can find out alot about a chick. Including but not limited to how she looks in a swim suit.

I miss then Zen of sailing, but as I have gotten older a c-15 just doesn't entise me. I want a McGreggor 26m. Wife said no 3 days ago, and we are still married, It must be the way she still looks in a swim suit.

Always give way the sail. Its the law and its respectful, at the ramp and at sea. Once you have sailed you understand why.
