I bought a used Thohatsu ´96 M40C. Found out that the dog clutch was broken and during disassembly I found metal shavings and what seems like crystals in the oil. Not sure what that might be. My problem is that when I was trying to remove the cam rod the cam rod bushing was stuck. Following some advice I claped the cam rod to a vice and heated the housing with a heat-gun and punded it with a rubber mallet. This resulted in the spring pins in the clutch cam to break. Therefore, the cam rod bushing is still stuck in the housing and the clutch cam is stuck inside the housing. I realize now that the advice a got was perhaps not the best, but since the bushing is buried deep inside the housing there is no way to get to it with any tools.

My question is wether I should try to remove the bushing and restore the whole thing? Given that the bushing was stuck enough to break the spring pins it will be hard to get it out. I am also worried that even if I get it out the reason for it having been stuck might cause me other problems along the way. Would you think it is worth the shot to try it or should I get a new housing?

Thanks in advance

It may have been corroded badly. It is after all, not a new motor. See your local machine shop. The spring pin, cam, rod (except for UL), and the bushing are still in stock.
