So, as I purchased my parts for my transom rebuild, I meant to order a new ring that goes inside the bellows right there at the bell housing. In stead, not thinking clearly, ordered a part called a tolerance ring. At first, thought they shipped the wrong part but looking at the parts manual, may have a problem. I did my bellows and gimbal ring late last summer and then figured out that was not my leak- so did the bellows and the bearing but I did not see this tolerance ring and no one mentioned it. I did not take out the one that was in there but now concerned if the bearing went back in ok- what is the purpose of this ring?

The tolerance ring goes around the bearing -the corrugated metal seen on the OD in link below . It crushes a bit when you drive the gimbal bearing in transom housing . It is normally supplied with the bearing. If you had to drive the bearing in with a hammer and seating tool then You're ok.

There is no way if the tolerance ring was not on the bearing it would seat in the transom housing.

Thanks- the more I thought about it, the more I did recall it coming with the bearing..not being a mechanic but a good tinkerer at best, often second guess what I have done...thanks.
