Tolling motor trouble shooting

I have a minn kota edge 55lb trolling motor that came with my boat. Used it 3x and worked flawlessly. Now after zero warning it just doesn't work. Shaft still swivels just fine, can spin prop by hand, just seems like it isn't getting any juice. I am planning to re-do the wires in the spring because they look a little iffy but I do not see anything on the wires that looks like it would kill it. Battery is good, connections are good, doesn't appear to have any fuses.... I am new to boats, can someone tell me where to start troubleshooting this thing?

Need a volt meter to run through the connections. There has been several mentions of switches going bad.

So simply check any connection until I find no power or reduced power? If it is a bad switch where would I find a replacement?

Re: Tolling motor trouble shooting

There is (or is supposed to be) an inline breaker at the battery. Probably a 30 to 50 amp.
If you find a bad switch you can call minn kota and get one sent to you or you can get one off of their web site. They have great customer service.
Start with a volt gauge at the battery and work your way forward. A likely culprit is the momentary/constant switch, or the switch on the pedal under your toe.
